Nap has no accounts and no tracking, and it never looks at what you do. This page says exactly what does leave your Mac or phone, and when.

Nap sends one anonymous signal when it’s first installed and once a day it’s opened: app version and a random install ID. Nothing about you or your Mac.

The screensavers

The screensavers never go online. Your settings are saved on your Mac, in ~/Library/Application Support/Nap/settings.json, and stay there.

The app, when you use a licence key

The app contacts Dodo Payments, who issue the keys, in three cases: when you enter a key, when you open the app while licensed, and when you press Deactivate. Each time it sends:

  • your licence key and the ID of this Mac’s activation;
  • your Mac’s name, so you can tell your Macs apart if you ever ask us for help. That name is whatever you called your Mac, and it often contains a person’s name.

It sends nothing else: no email address, no settings, no usage.

Your trial and your licence are stored on your Mac, in /Users/Shared/Nap, so every account on the Mac shares one licence. Deleting that folder removes both.

The Android app

The Android app has no internet access: it asks Android for no permissions at all, so it can’t send anything anywhere. Your settings, and a copy of the photo if you choose one as a background, are kept in the app’s own storage on your phone. If Android’s backup is on, Android may include them in your Google backup, under Google’s privacy policy; we never see it. Uninstalling the app deletes them.

When you buy

Dodo Payments take the payment as merchant of record. They collect what a payment needs, such as your name, email address, country and payment details, and pass us your email address, country and what you bought so that we can support you. We never see your card details. Their privacy policy covers what they hold.

We keep your purchase email so we can help you if you lose your key or need a refund.

This website

trynap.app is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes the requests your browser makes to load it, including your IP address. There is no analytics script on the site.

The “Nap for Mac” link in the Android app’s settings goes through trynap.app/m, which adds one to a count of taps for that day. Only the number is kept: no IP address or other identifier.

Its fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when a page loads.

Getting your data, or having it deleted

Email [email protected] and we’ll tell you what we hold, or delete it. Deleting a purchase record means we can no longer recover your key for you.
