What you need

A Mac running macOS 13 Ventura or later, with Apple silicon or Intel.

Installing

  1. Drag Nap to Applications and open it.
  2. Press Install. Nap puts the screensavers in place for you.
  3. Press Open Screen Saver Settings and choose Nap.

Nap shows which of these steps is still left to do.

Nap isn’t in System Settings

macOS lists screensavers from outside Apple under Others. If you don’t see them, press Show All.

My changes don’t show up

Changes apply the next time the screensaver starts.

It still looks like an older version

Open Nap. If the installed screensaver is older than the one inside the app, the button reads Update.

Licence

Nap is free to download and runs for two days. After that the screensavers show the map with one quiet line instead of animating, and the app asks for a key.

A key is a one-off purchase with no expiry, and works on one Mac at a time. To use it, open Nap, press Enter Licence Key… and paste the key from your purchase email. Nap checks it, and then stays out of your way: a small line beside Reset reads Licensed on this Mac.

Moving Nap to another Mac

On the Mac you’re leaving, open Nap and press Deactivate beside Licensed on this Mac. That frees the key immediately, and you can enter it on the new Mac. Do this before wiping, selling or giving away a Mac.

The old Mac is gone, sold or wiped

Email [email protected] with your licence key, and we’ll free it for you. There’s no charge and no limit on doing this; it’s what happens when a Mac dies.

I’ve lost my key

Email [email protected] from the address you bought with and we’ll send it again.

“This key is already in use on another Mac”

The key is still activated somewhere. Deactivate it there, as above, or email us and we’ll free it.

Does Nap need the internet?

Only now and then. It checks your licence when you open the app, and keeps working for two weeks without reaching us at all. The screensavers themselves never go online.

More than one display

Each display runs the screensaver, and every one starts from the same place, heading the same way.

Removing Nap

If you’ve bought Nap and might use the key elsewhere, press Deactivate in the app first, or the key stays tied to this Mac.

Then delete Nap.saver from ~/Library/Screen Savers, the Nap folder from ~/Library/Application Support, the Nap folder from /Users/Shared (your licence and trial live there), and Nap itself from Applications.

Anything else

Email [email protected]. Say which version of macOS you’re on and which Mac you have, and we’ll get back to you.
